Each year, NEMSMA holds an election for several Board of Directors' seats which come to term. This year, those currently held by 4 board members are due. Nominations for these seats are now open and those interested should submit their name, or the name of a member in good standing whom they would like to nominate, to the address or e-mail listed below, by October 23rd, 2017.
Eligible candidates must be a current individual full member or primary group member of NEMSMA in good standing. They must either self-nominate, or be nominated by another full member of NEMSMA who is in good standing. Length of a term as a board member is either one year or two years based on open position.This election there is four (4) open seats for two (2) year terms and zero (0) open seats for one (1) year terms.The nominees with the higher number of votes will receive the longer term period.The elected nominees will take office on January 1 following election.This year, nominations are open from October 9th to October 23rd. Elections will be held on line, from November 6th to November 19th.
Nominees will be required to submit:
- 1.A photograph of the candidate
- 2.Brief professional summary, not to exceed 500 words, which should include a position statement explaining why they seek Board membership
- 3.A letter of reference from a current NEMSMA member in good standing
All information must be submitted prior to October 31st, 2017. This will be disseminated to the members to aid them in making their choices for the election. Election votes by members will be due by November 19th, 2017 and conducted electronically.
The Board of Directors is vested with the general management and oversight of the Association's affairs. The Board of Directors supervise all funds, approve all budgets of the NEMSMA, including those of committees, appoint an auditor when deemed necessary, elect the officers of the Association, and appoint other officials of the Association. Board Members are expected to attend all regular, electronic and special meetings of the Board of Directors unless permission for absence is requested from and granted by the President. The seat of any Board Member who is absent without prior permission from two (2) consecutive regular or special meetings within two (2) years may be declared vacant by a majority of directors present at any regular meeting of the Board of Directors.
Currently, standing committees have a Board members liaison as part of the committee, who act to contact between the committee and the board.The board member guide committee chair work and assure completion of committee goals and tasks. Other Board members serve in the capacity of one of several officer positions; Past-President, President, President-Elect, Secretary and Treasurer. Candidates for Board membership should expect to be heavily involved in officer and committee work and be prepared to dedicate substantial personal time to the affairs of the Association.
